For two and a half centuries, scholars (and quite a few authors who do not really qualify as scholars) have been pursuing the "historical Jesus" as an alternative to "the Christ of faith." Today, historical Jesus studies is a major field of research and debate. What's it all about? What do scholars conclude we may confidently know about Jesus, and why? What kind of books are the Gospels, and are they our best sources of historical information about Jesus? What presuppositions or assumptions do most scholars bring to the study of the historical Jesus? In this session, you will get a "cram course" in historical Jesus studies and learn how to navigate this subject in defense of the Christian faith.
