2019 SES National Conference on Christian Apologetics

Those who use the problem of evil to argue that God doesn't exist often assume that a perfectly moral being wouldn't allow evil. Since such evil exists, no such being could exist. In response, Christians typically argue that God has morally justifiable reasons for allowing evil. 

In this talk I draw on a discussion I had with Michael Shermer and argue that God is not a moral being at all since he is not beholden to any human moral standards. This deflates the typical problem of evil since God could be amoral and still allow evil. Further, it argues for a sharp Creator/creature distinction and a proper view of God.
